Aquaman crosses a billion dollar at the box office ; Film maker thanks fans and crew3 min read
James Wan’s Aquaman has now entered the billion dollar club , a surprisingly amazing feat for DCEU. It is the first movie to do so and is likely to do much more. It has already crossed The Dark Knight and will probably cross all comic book movies with a worldwide cume of less than $1.3 B at the box office.
That includes the likes of The Dark Knight Rises , Captain America : Civil War and if its lucky , may be even Iron Man 3. Irrespective of that , it is already a huge success. Using a billion dollar as a metric for a successful comic book movie may be common nowadays but in reality , it is outrageous. James Wan , director of Aquaman , took this moment to thank fans for their support.
A few things to say…— James Wan (@creepypuppet) January 13, 2019
Firstly, this movie wouldn’t be what it is without the astonishing achievement of everyone involved, from the head of departments to every single crew member, who demanded upmost excellence in helping design and create this cinematic experience.
Secondly, I’ll forever be indebted to Jason for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic superheroes ever, and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come.— James Wan (@creepypuppet) January 13, 2019
Huge THANK YOU to my amazing cast — Amber, Patrick (my rabbit foot), Nicole, Yahya, Willem, Temuera, Dolph, Ludi, Michael — for breathing life and wonder into our beloved characters.— James Wan (@creepypuppet) January 13, 2019
Aquaman releases in Japan next month and that should see the film getting its last boost in foreign markets , thereby deciding its final numbers. At this point , the sequel for the movie is almost certain. What WB should keep themselves concerned about is that success of one movie shouldn’t let them shift their fulcrum of concentration from other heroes.
DCEU’s upcoming slate is bright with the fun and jolly Shazam by Sandberg releasing this April and the dark and gritty take on Joker by Joaquin Phoenix laughs into the theaters this October.
