BLACK PANTHER Editor Details Two Deleted Scenes That Were “Painfully” Cut From The Film3 min read
Michael Sauver , the editor of Marvel’s Black Panther shares details of two scenes , that were difficult to cut out.
With Black Panther already in the billion dollar game , the Ryan Coogler directorial debut is gradually pacing forward to intensify its position. And while the movie is getting the praise , it deserves , editor Michael Sauver reveals which two scenes were the most painful to be cut out.
It turns out Okoye and W’Kabi had a scene which helped put in the contrast between the two in terms of crisis and the prince’s absence. However looking at the runtime , the creators seemed to have hesittant to put it in the theatrical version.
“Hands down the most painful scene to cut was [one] with Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya. Toward the end, after things go bad and Killmonger is in control and all that, we’re talking about, what are they going to do? What is Wakanda going to become? ,” Shawver revealed to The Wrap.” Those are two powerhouse actors and it was an incredible scene with so many layers to it – boyfriend and girlfriend, it was general and her advisor, all those things. That was painful. At that point in the movie, it’s about two thirds through, and that’s when most movies drag. Ours was taking a while to get to that point.“
Also , we had a scene which put grounding to the bond between T’Challa and Xuri which would have provided more impetus on the character’s death further in the movie. “There’s a scene between Chadwick and Forest’s characters which sets up their relationship. It sort of lets you attach yourself to their father-son dynamic so that later on in the film… you really feel more.”
Hopefully , this two scenes will make it into the Blu-Ray when the movie hits home release later this year. Let us know what you feel of this two scenes being cut from the movie in the comments section below. And follow us for more superhero updates.
