Director Ruben Fleischer explains why Venom does not have the spider symbol on his chest2 min read
SONY displayed a footage of Venom exclusively to the SDCC audience , some pictures of whom were leaked. But that was it. We did not get anything else from SDCC as far as Venom is considered. However , there was one thing still missing in that footage as well. The much fan coveted white spider symbol at the chest of the creature ! When asked about the same to Director Ruben Fleischer by IGN , he says it isn’t going to feature at all.
“If you look at the comics, in Venom, there is just elements of white within his suit. Because our character does not originate from Spider-Man, it makes no sense to put a spider on his chest.” said the 43 year old American film-maker. “We tried to be as accurate as we possibly could, even though some people feel it’s inaccurate, but there is a lot of white and we wanted to give him a distinctive pattern.” While this does makes sense , it is sure to upset some fans who are looking forward to the web-head being involved somewhere down the line in the franchise.
He also explained the reason he sought out to include the veins on Venom that are kind of white in color. “If you have an all-black character, especially in night scenes, he just kind of disappears. … Since we couldn’t use the Spider-Man symbol, we wanted to give him another graphic element, and those veins that kind of form a shape on his chest was an original idea that we just thought looked really cool.” While we think that his reasoning of Venom not being visible at night might not resonate well with everyone , we would still like to hear from you about that in the comments section below. Let us know what you think about the spider symbol not being present in Venom and if you can live with it ?
