“Let go , Jean” When Xavier asked Jean for that at the end of X-Men : Apocalypse to defeat the uber powerful mutant , he didn’t quite mean what is unraveling in the upcoming Dark Phoenix. Both comic book fans and movie goers (thanks to X-Men : The Last Stand) know that Charles is been controlling Jean for a very long time in fear that the entity in it does not gets out.
Its things and decisions like this and many others is why his X-Men has at times been angry on him. A small tease of this has been shown in the trailer as we see Jean slowly tip off the other side as Jessica Chastain’s antagonist character continues to play with her mind. The promised drama is clearly evident in the first teaser trailer , and if this is the way to go , we might just be in for a treat :
