Kevin Fiege promises a lot of outer space and 90s styled action homage in Captain Marvel3 min read
Kevin Fiege promises Captain Marvel to be based on a lot of outer space sequences and that the movie will pay homage to the actions of the 90s.
Apart from the Avengers : Infinity War and its unnamed sequel , Captain Marvel is the next big thing to look up to. Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers is a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe long before Iron Man and that could shape up well for MCU’s first super-heroine to prosper in the phase 4.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Kevin Fiege talked about Captain Marvel and how she will be fitting into the universe. Carol Denvers was the real reason Nick Fury believed in the Avengers initiative and that this world is filled with people whose powers can’t be matched ; probably not Thor ( as mentioned back in the Avengers ).
Captain Marvel will be set in the 90s and will see Fury with both eyes , probably along with Agent Hill. Something will happen in the events of Captain Marvel that will change the super spy’s perspective about superheroes. “We wanted to explore a period before Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury had any idea about any of the other heroes and crazy stuff going on in the world,” Fiege explained. “We first met Nick when he told Tony, “You’re part of a big universe. You just don’t know yet.” Well, we want to go back to a time when he didn’t know it yet, and really showcase and announce that Carol Danvers was that first hero that Nick came across.“
Talking about the cultural influences of the film , Fiege said that the movie will adapt elements from the 90s thus paying the time a homage. “It also got us talking about different genres, exploring this notion of sort of the ‘90s action film. We hadn’t necessarily done anything like that before either, so there are definitely homages to our favorite ‘90s action films within Captain Marvel.“
When asked about the exact inspirations , Fiege mentioned Terminator 2 and promised that the movie will feature the outer space for the most time. “Not necessarily talking about any particulars of the story, but the action elements Terminator 2. That’s about as iconic as you get, looking at kind of those cool street level fights, street level car chases, and fun stuff like that. That being said, much of the movie takes place in outer space, as you might think a Captain Marvel movie would. Like all of our genre inspirations, there are bits and pieces here and there.”
