Marvel Studios head Kevin Fiege reportedly showed interest in Noah Hawley’s ‘Doctor Doom’ script3 min read
With Walt Disney group of companies successfully acquiring most of 20th Century FOX next week , the Marvel family is reuniting again. As the X-Men and the Fantastic 4 returns under the Marvel umbrella , fans can’t help wonder how Marvel Studios would integrate its first family and most popular superhero team into the universe. Considering Marvel’s history with cracking billion dollar nuts with its plethora of second tier heroes , the possibilities with the full family reunited is limitless.
Among all these integration and dissolution of franchises, teams and creative heads; we were reminded once again of Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom standalone script; thanks to The Hollywood Reporter. As per the Legion show-runner, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige met up with him and asked: “Are you still working on it?” , referring to the script. Hawley was quick to answer with another question “Should I still be working on it?”. However, that is the last we know of it as Hawley joked that Feige wouldn’t reveal the “thousand-year plan” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to him.
Kevin Feige before anything else is a fan. Time and again he has proved that fact to us. It’s not unlikely for him at all to get intrigued with a standalone Doctor Doom script considering how viscerally complex, interesting and powerful of a character Doom is. Add to the fact, that Hawley is the mind behind Legion, one of the finest and most creative comic-book shows ever made. Doctor Doom is not only a very complex character but also a perfect example of the gap in character richness between the villains of the World’s mightiest heroes and that of the first family or the mutants.
According to Hawley, he envisions Doctor Doom as “a geopolitical thriller more than a standard superhero movie. It begins with Doom putting a dome over Latveria, the fictional European country he rules. He later invites a female journalist to be his voice to the world, meaning its protagonist would be someone without superpowers“. It’s still unknown as of whether his project would get greenlight ever, but considering all the factors that are in play: Disney +, Kevin Feige, Creative history of Noah Hawley with Legion, Avengers: End Game, Acquisition of 20th century FOX; I am certainly keeping my hopes high here.
