Marvel Studios is working on the Muslim super-heroine Ms Marvel3 min read

Ms. Marvel… is definitely sort of in the works.” Marvel Studios president and an aficionado of the Marvel lore , Kevin Fiege stated in a recent interview with BBC. “[She is] another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel. We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world,” he added.

This will neither be the first female-led nor the first representative Marvel movie but it will be truly be an interesting story to tell  , considering the compelling attributes of teenage heroism the character brings to the table. An Pakistani-American from Jersey City, New Jersey ; Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel appeared recently in the August of 2013. Marvel’s announcement that a Muslim character would headline a comic book was met with widespread reaction and the first volume of Ms. Marvel won the Hugo Award for best graphic story in 2015. Will Marvel Studios able to reproduce that in the cinematic version ? Only time will tell !

Kamala , a shape-shifter originally was bestowed by the unique powers from the inhuman genes in the aftermath of the Inhumans story-line. Since Inhumans is a failed concept in the TV and Marvel has no plans to revive it in the MCU , it’s highly likely Kamala would get her power from somewhere else.

She draws huge inspiration from Captain Marvel Carol Danvers who is being introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Brie Larson in March 2019. The character’s love for Captain Marvel has her go towards a name of Ms.Marvel , a title previously held by Carol Danvers.

While fans could find only the face of Priyanka Chopra to lay their fan cast upon , that may not be the case. Considering Kamala is in her teenage years (same as Tom Holland’s Spider-man) and would be representing millions of Muslims around the globe , Disney would not risk casting an Indian actress for the role. Even though Priyanka is an astounding performer , Marvel would require someone younger and someone of Pakistani American origin to make the role a global sensation.

Several celebrities from the Muslim community or otherwise in the industries have started the buzz about the project including Riz Ahmed , who plays the villainous Doctor Drake in the upcoming Sony’s Venom. Here is his tweet :
